Fear no more the heat of the sun,
Nor the furious winter's rages
Thou thy worldly task hast done
Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages
Golden lads and girls all must
As chimney sweepers, come to dust
(From Shakespeare's "Cymbeline")

Nothing can separate us from the Love of God. Nothing can fill the gap when we are away from those we love and it would be wrong to try and find anything. We must simply hold out and win through. That sounds very hard at first, but at the same time it is a great consolation, since leaving the gap unfilled preserves the bond between us.
It is a nonsense to say God fills the gap, he does not fill it, but keeps is empty so that our communion with one another can be kept alive, even at the cost of pain and sadness. Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
